BENJAMIN
DISRAELI, EARL OF BEACONSFIELD. Autograph Note Signed “Beaconsfield,” no place [probably London], 20
May 1880. 1 page, 4½" x 7".
Benjamin Disraeli, the British politician and author who served twice
as Prime Minister, was created earl of Beaconsfield in 1876. On this
sheet of black-bordered stationery, he has written a pass, directing, “Admit the Bearer to the Gallery of the House,” presumably one of the Houses of Parliament. He has signed, “Beaconsfield.”
The month before this, Disraeli and his Conservative party had lost
the general election, and he had stepped down as Prime Minister. He
would die the following year.
The note has mounting traces on the verso that show through very slightly
on the recto, but it is in very good condition overall. $550.00
