INSCRIBED TO THE PRESIDENT OF PRINCETON
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER. Signed Portrait, no place, no date.
Dwight Eisenhower, the American general who was the Allied commander-in-chief in World War II, went on to two terms as President, serving from 1953 to 1961. This portrait of him is a black-and-white reproduction of an excellent drawing or painting by Jes Schlaikjer. The bust-length image shows Eisenhower looking forward; he is wearing a suit. The image is 6½" x 8"; it is surrounded by a large white border for an overall size of 11" x 13½".
Eisenhower has inscribed the portrait in the lower border, “For Dr. Harold W. Dodds – with warm regard and high esteem from his admiring friend – Dwight D. Eisenhower.” Harold W. Dodds (1889-1980) served as President of Princeton University from 1933 to 1957.
The portrait is in fine condition, and Eisenhower’s inscription is very dark and bold. $750.00
