VLADIMIR
HOROWITZ. Partly
Printed Document Signed, New York, NY, 23 January 1952. 1 page, 14¼”
x 8½”.
One of
the 20th century's most celebrated pianists, known for his performances
of the Romantic repertoire, Vladimir Horowitz was born in Russia, but
left there in 1925, eventually settling in the United States.
In this
contract, Horowitz agrees to give a concert in Buffalo, New York, at
an interesting date – February 10, 1953. Just two weeks after
that, on February 25, 1953, Horowitz would give his Silver Jubilee concert
and would then begin a twelve-year retirement from concert life. It
was one of several periods of retirement from which Horowitz would return
to give more concerts and make more recordings, all to considerable
acclaim.
The printed
form, supplied by Horowitz’s agent, sets a fee of $3750 and lays
out a variety of conditions and terms for his concert. Horowitz has
signed at the lower left, in blue ink, “Vl Horowitz.”
The document
has fold lines and very minor marginal flaws, but is basically in very
good condition. $300.00
