SAMUEL H. PARSONS. Autograph Document Signed as Brigadier General in the Continental Army, no place, 24 October 1777. 1 page, 4" x 7½".
A Connecticut attorney, Samuel Parsons joined the Continental Army in 1775 and served throughout the Revolutionary War, eventually rising to the rank of major general. Parsons had a part in planning the capture of Fort Ticonderoga; he served at Boston, Long Island, and along the Hudson; and in 1779, he was put in charge of the defense of Connecticut. After the war, Parsons moved to the Northwest Territory, where he was a director of the Ohio Company and became the first judge in the territory.
This Revolutionary War-date document, penned while Parsons was a brigadier general, is an order to the commissary. "Deliver Micah Hubbard the Hides in your Custody," he directs, and then dates and signs, “Octr. 24th. 1777 / Saml. H. Parsons B. Genl.”
The document is in fine condition. $750.00
