CHARLES FRANCIS ADAMS. American politician, diplomat, and author who served as the U. S. Minister to Great Britain during the Civil War; the son of John Quincy Adams. Signature, no place, 9 April 1875. On a 3¾" x 1½" paper. He has signed in full, “Charles Francis Adams,” on this paper. This is accompanied by a small sepia bust photo of Adams (apparently a carte-de-visite photo that has been removed from the photographer’s mount).

FRANÇOIS ARAGO. French physicist noted for his research on the properties of light; as a government official, he was responsible for the abolition of slavery in French colonies. Signature, no place, 20 January 1843. On a 5" x 1" paper. This signature, cut from the conclusion of a letter, reads, "Veuillez agréer, monsieur, ma plus haute considération / F. Arago / le 20 janvier 1843." The signature is in very good condition, neatly mounted to an 5½" x 8" paper. A scarce autograph. $50.00
JOSEPH P. BRADLEY. U. S. Supreme Court Justice, 1870-92. Signature, no place, no date [1870-92]. On a 4" x 2½" card. He has signed, "Joseph P. Bradley / Justice Supreme / Court U. S.," on this card. The card is in very good condition. $75.00
DAVID J. BREWER. U. S. Supreme Court Justice, 1889-1910. Signature, no place, 7 February 1891. On a 4" x 2¼" card. He has signed, "David J. Brewer / Associate Justice Sup. Ct. / U. S. Feby 7th, 1891." The card is in very good condition. $75.00
WILLIAM G. BROWNLOW. Methodist preacher; Tennessee newspaper editor and politician, called the "Fighting Parson." Signature, no place, no date. On a 3½" x 2" paper. He has signed, "W. G. Brownlow," on this small sheet. The piece is in very good condition. $25.00
WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT. 19th century American poet; editor of the New York Evening Post. Signature, no place, 24 June 1876. On a 4"x 2" card. He has signed, "William Cullen Bryant. / – June 24th 1876. –" at the center of this card. The piece is in fine condition. $85.00
JOHN BURROUGHS. American naturalist and author. Signature, no place, 28 March 1888. On a 3¾" x 2¼" card. He has signed, "John Burroughs / March 28, 1888." The card is in very good condition. $25.00
NOAH DAVIS. New York attorney noted for his opposition to the Tweed Ring both as U. S. district attorney in New York and as the state Supreme Court justice who presided at the trials of "Boss" Tweed. Signature, New York, NY, February 1889. On a 3½" x 2½" card. He has signed this card, "With compliments / of Noah Davis / New York Feby 1889." The card is in fine condition. $25.00
IGNATIUS DONNELLY. American author, social reformer, and politician. Signature, no place, 27 June 1889. On a 3½" x 2" card. He has signed, "Very respy yrs: / Ignatius Donnelly / June 27, 1889." The card is in very good condition. $25.00
MILLARD FILLMORE. President, 1850-53, who assumed office on the death of Zachary Taylor. Free Frank Signature, no place [Washington, DC], no date. On a 10" x 7¾" address leaf. He has penned his free frank as a Congressman, "M. Fillmore / M.C.," in the upper right corner of the address panel, which is also addressed in his hand. There are some losses at the top and bottom of the leaf due to seal tears, not affecting the address panel, which is in very good condition. $300.00
JOHN B. FLOYD. Confederate general who was U. S. Secretary of War, 1857-60, under James Buchanan. Free Frank Signature, no place [Washington, DC], no date [17 March 1859]. On a 5¼" x 3" envelope. He has penned his free frank as Secretary of War, "J. B. Floyd," in the upper right corner of this envelope, which is addressed in a clerical hand. The Washington postmark dates the piece. The piece is in very good condition. $50.00
MELVILLE W. FULLER. Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court, 1888-1910. Signature, no place, no date. On a 3¾" x 2¼" card. He has signed, "M. W. Fuller," at the center of the card. The card is in very good condition. $100.00

HORACE GRAY. U. S. Supreme Court Justice, 1882-1902. Signature, no place, no date. On a 4" x 2¼" card. He has signed, "Horace Gray," at the center of the card. The card has very slight soiling, but is in very good condition overall. $65.00
OSKAR KOKOSCHKA. Austrian painter and dramatist; leading exponent of Expressionism. Signature, no place, no date. On a 6" x 6" album leaf. He has signed, “Oskar Kokoschka,” in dark blue ink near the center of this large album leaf. In the lower left corner, well away from the signature, is a small notation, written in another hand, giving his nationality and date of birth. The piece is in fine condition. $75.00
JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL. American poet, essayist, and diplomat. Signature, London, 10 December 1881. On a 3½" x 2" card. While serving as U. S. minister to Great Britain, he has signed, "Yours faithfully / J. R. Lowell / London: 10th Decr, 1881." The card is in very good condition. $25.00
STANLEY MATTHEWS. U. S. Supreme Court Justice, 1881-89. Signature, no place, no date. On a 3¾" x 2¼" card. He has signed, "Stanley Matthews," at the center of the card. The card is in very good condition. $65.00
MARIA MITCHELL. 19th century American astronomer; first woman elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Signature, no place, no date. On a 4¾" x 7¾" album leaf. She has signed, "Maria Mitchell," at the center of this album leaf. On the same leaf is the signature of Jane M. Slocum, a lawyer and educator. One letter of Mitchell’s signature is slightly smudged, and the leaf has slight marginal toning, but the piece is overall in very good condition. $75.00
JOHN T. MORGAN. Confederate brigadier general who was U. S. Senator from Alabama from 1877-1907. Signature, no place, 26 January 1891. On a 3¾" x 2¼" card. He has signed this card, "Jno. T. Morgan," adding his home state of Alabama and the date. The card is in very good condition. $50.00
LEVI P. MORTON. U. S. Vice President, 1889-93, during Benjamin Harrison's administration. Signature, no place, 1888. On a 3¾"x 2" card. He has signed this card, "Levi P. Morton," and dated it in the year he ran for and was elected Vice President. The card is in very good condition. $50.00
PHILIP H. SHERIDAN. Union general and cavalry commander. Signature, no place, no date [1869-88]. On a 3¾" x 2¼" card. He has signed, "P. H. Sheridan / Lt General," as Lieutenant General, a rank he held from 1869 to 1888. The card is in very good condition. $200.00
ELIZABETH CADY STANTON. A key leader of the woman suffrage movement in the U. S. and an organizer of the first woman's rights convention in 1848. Signature, no place, no date [November 1892]. On a 4½" x 7" page. This is the concluding page of an Autograph Letter Signed by Stanton, which contains the last few words of her final sentence followed by the closing and her full signature, "Sincerely yours / Elizabeth Cady Stanton." A docket on the verso indicates that this dates from November 1892. The page is in fine condition, and the closing and Stanton's signature, which are well-centered on the page, are large, dark, and bold, well-suited for display. $350.00
SUPREME COURT OF THE U.S., 1866-67. Signatures of 8 Justices, no place, no date. On a 4¾" x 7¾" album leaf. Eight Justices of the U. S. Supreme Court have signed this leaf from an autograph album, with each one adding his title after his name. At the top of the sheet is the signature of SALMON P. CHASE, the Chief Justice, and then the others have signed in order of their seniority: JAMES M. WAYNE, SAMUEL NELSON, ROBERT C. GRIER, NATHAN CLIFFORD, NOAH SWAYNE, SAMUEL MILLER, and DAVID DAVIS. These names date the piece to 1866-67. The only name from this period that is missing is Stephen J. Field. Seven of the justices have signed on the front of this album leaf; David Davis has signed on the verso. The leaf has some slight browning at the margins; overall, it is in very good condition. $750.00
